The tournament receives the ISO 20121 certificate for its commitment to sustainability

The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell has received the ISO 20121 certification of Sports Event Management Systems awarded by Bureau Veritas. In the last edition, the organization has already received the sustainable event certificate. The certification evaluates, among other issues, the environmental impact such as the consumption of energy or water, the generation of waste or noise pollution; the social impact, such as accessibility and mobility, security or legacy to the community; and the economic one among which are the benefits to local businesses, innovation or satisfaction.

This certification is a big step for the tournament. It shows the strong commitment of the Real Club Tenis Barcelona-1899 and the organizing committee of the tournament to place the club as one of the world leaders in terms of sustainable management. Albert Agustí, president of the RCTB, said at the ceremony that “only Roland Gsrros and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell have this certificate“.

The ceremony was held at noon at the RCTB tent in the Village. In addition to Albert Agustí, who received the certificate from José Luis Manglano, executive president of Bureau Veritas Spain and Portugal, Agustí Colom, councilor of business and tourism and councilor of the Les Corts-Pedralbes district of the City Council of Barcelona, ​​attended as well as Albert Costa, tournament director.

Albert Agustí thanked for the certification granted, which represents “sending a message to society about the need to create a sustainable conscience and a commitment to the future at a technological, ecological and security level“. The president has been proud to be at the forefront “of a tournament that is a pioneer in the field of sustainable organizations.

For his part, José Luis Manglano stressed that “this recognition clearly reinforces the commitment of the Real Club Tenis de Barcelona with the tournament and with the city of Barcelona“.

The district councilor thanked the club for its commitment to sustainability. “These initiatives not only make the district more sustainable – he mentioned – but also fairer“. Colom also wanted to mention that the sustainability project has had four people from the inclusion space.

In this edition the organization has carried out a series of initiatives supporting its commitment to the ISO 2012 certification. For the first time, recyclable cups made of corn are used to reduce the production of plastic waste, a bicycle parking with surveillance and all plant areas will be supplied with water by a drip irrigation system and in terms of energy efficiency, the use of appliances of category A or higher and the modification of the cleaning and maintenance schedule to take advantage of sunlight should be highlighted.

A social initiative that has been organized for the first time has been the creation of a Blood Bank, rewarding donors with tickets.
