The tribute to David Ferrer becomes one of the highlights of this tournament´s edition
“It has not been easy, but I finally have it,” said David Ferrer with the Conde de Godó Trophy in his hands. The audience responded with a laugh, remembering that on four occasions the player from Alicante played the final of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, but he never managed to win and always facing the same opponent: Rafael Nadal.
Jordi Cambra, president of the Real Club Tennis Barcelona, and Albert Costa, sports director of the tournament, have been the ones who presented the precious trophy to Ferrer, who in his speech thanked the support he has always received from this club and in this tournament. And with the trophy in his arms said a few words to the public after seeing messages from his colleagues of the tour on the giant screen, including, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who greeted him in this crucial moment of his career.
The final applause from the crow was huge. Even though Ferrer does not appear in the list of winners of the competition, but will remain forever in the hearts of all fans for these 15 years of his life that he has shared with them playing every year.
