The Big Four

The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2020 promises great emotions. So far, four of the most outstanding players in the world rankings and with tremendous performances these past weeks have confirmed their participation in the 68th edition of one of the tournaments with the most tradition on the circuit. Rafael Nadal, world number 1, Daniil Medvedev, number 4, Dominic Thiem, number 5, and Roberto Bautista, number 9, will be the main stars of the competition, which will be held between April 18 and 26.

Nadal, leader of the ATP ranking, will play to be crowned for the 12th time as champion on the courts of the Real Club Tenis Barcelona-1899. He is in great shape and in two months he has triumphed at the Davis Cup and reached the finals of the ATP Cup, tournaments in which he has only lost two matches, both in Australia, against David Goffin in the quarterfinals and Novak Djokovic in the final.

Last summer´s sensation after reaching six consecutive finals, the Russian Medvedev, will repeat in Barcelona in search of the title that escaped from him in 2019, falling to Thiem in the final. The defender of the title and last year´s runner-up both appear as the two main players of the group that are chasing the three ATP giants, Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer in the rankings.

Bautista, undefeated in the ATP Cup without losing a single set, will return to the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell after his absence last year. It will be his seventh participation. His best showings have been the quarterfinals in 2015 and 2018.

The final list of players will be announced on March 10.

David Ferrer, sports director of the tournament, said after Bautista´s confirmation “for now everything is going perfectly, and with these names the tournament ensures to have the highest level of recent years”. “But we do not stop“, he added, “and we continue to work for other great players to come to Barcelona, where they have a special treatment in club that is a model of excellence.
