Farah and Cabal aim to defend the doubles title in Barcelona

The Colombians, who were the best team in the world in 2019, have their eyes set on winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Robert Farah and Juan Sebastián Cabal will lead the doubles draw of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell that has been announced this Tuesday, April 6 and that will feature some of the main teams of the ATP circuit. The Colombian couple will defend the title they won in 2019 against another team that will also be present this year on the courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares (the Brazilian won the tournament in 2013 teaming up with Alexander Peya). With regards to the Colombians, they have announced that their main objective for this season will be the Tokyo Olympics.

Nor will another illustrious doubles player like Marcel Granollers miss the Barcelona event. In his case, he will play at home – he belongs to the RCTB-1899 – and will finally try to lift a title that has resisted him to date after having played two finals in the 2012 and 2016 editions. With his current partner, Horacio Zeballos, they have lifted the trophy this year at the ATP 500 in ATP 500 in Acapulco and are in good form.

Special mention should be made about the participation of German Kevin Krawietz, champion of the last two editions of Roland Garros and who has recently emerged as a great doubles figure on clay. This year he will play for the first time in Barcelona in search of one of the most prestigious titles on the circuit and he will do so accompanied by veteran Horia Tecau.

Other great doubles specialists such as Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have also signed up for the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell; Lukaz Kubot and Wesley Koolhof; Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert or Marcelo Melo and Jean-Julien Roger. The 16 teams in the draw have 13 confirmed and two wildcards that the tournament will reserve will be announced shortly. The remaining team will come out of the qualifying draw. The tournament will be played from April 17 to 25 and can be followed through the website and official social networks.
