The European clay court tour begins
This week the long-awaited European tour on clay kicked off with the ATP 250s in Marbella and Sardinia. Both new tournaments and with a temporary license for one year, will welcome numerous players that we will see at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell from April 17 to 25. The European swing won clay will end in May in the only Grand Slam on this surface, Roland Garros.
In Marbella there will be a large representation of Spanish tennis players, led by Pablo Carreño, the main seed. Illustrious names such as Albert Ramos, Feliciano López, Roberto Carballés, Alex Davidovich and Jaume Munar will also be there. The Italian Fabio Fognini, who received a last minute invitation to participate and who will also be present in Barcelona, will not miss the appointment either. All eyes will also be on the young talent Carlos Alcaraz, who will try to start his journey on the European clay tour on the right foot.
In Cagliari, the British Daniel Evans will lead the team, who will also be in Barcelona. Other names to follow will be the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, the Argentine Guido Pella or the German Jan-Lennard Struff.
The European clay court calendar started this week in Marbella and Cágliari, will continue next week with the traditional Monte Carlo Masters 1,000 and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will follow.
