Pablo Carreño won the final between Spanish players in Marbella
The first clay court tournament of the season in Spain, the ATP 250 AnyTech365 Andalucía Open held in Marbella, offered a final with two RCTB-1899 players that we will see in a few days at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. Pablo Carreño, seeded number 1, took the title against Jaume Munar in an exciting match that had to be decided in the third set 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. In addition to the final, the semifinals were also starred by Spanish tennis players with great potential on clay with Albert Ramos and Carlos Alcaraz.
Pablo Carreño came out of the blocks strong leading 6-1, a score that assumed that the encounter would be resolved fast. In front of him was Jaume Munar, debutant in an ATP final and eager to get into the winner’s circle. The Majorcan did not stop fighting at any moment and produced his best tennis to take the second set 6-2 and level the match. The third and decisive set was very exciting with the maximum equality between the two players. At 4 all, Carreño managed to break Munar’s serve and with 5-4 under his belt he used his powerful serve to earn the victory 6-4.
With this result, Pablo Carreño now has five titles to his name and consolidates himself in the 12th position in the ATP Tour ranking. At the moment he is in excellent form and will arrive in Barcelona with great expectations. In 2018 he played a magnificent tournament reaching the semifinals, where he fell to the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. He knows the tournament and its courts well, since he has been a RCTB-1899 player since his development towards becoming a professional tennis player.
For his part, Jaume Munar, who also knows the RCTB-1899 perfectly, is firmly consolidated in the Top-100 and is ranked 81 in the world. He will not participate in Monte Carlo and will focus on preparing well to qualify for the main draw of Barcelona for the fifth time in his career.
