Munar and Musetti receive a wildcard for the main draw; Gimeno and Rune for the qualifying
Jaume Munar and Lorenzo Musetti will compete in the main draw of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell thanks to two wildcards granted by the organization of the tournament. With this, both players join Carlos Alcaraz waiting to know the fourth wildcard will be awarded in the next few hours. In addition, Carlos Gimeno and Holger Rune have received wilcards to play the qualifying event and join Tommy Robredo.
Jaume Munar arrives at the tournament of his club in the “best moment of form of my career” as he himself affirms. The 23-year-old Majorcan tennis player, who currently occupies the 81st position in the ATP ranking, has regained those feelings that led him to occupy the 52nd position in 2019. So far this season he has reached four finals: at the Andalucía Open ATP 250 and three more in the ATP Challenger circuit, where he won the title in Antalya 1. Precisely, that title won in the Turkish city was achieved after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the final, another player that we will see in Barcelona thanks to a wildcard from the organization. The 19-year-old Italian is one of the most promising tennis players on the circuit and will make his debut at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
Jaume Munar, Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz will join the rest of the main draw players, who will start playing from Monday, April 19. The draw ceremony for the main draw will take place next Saturday, April 17 at 12 noon and can be followed in streaming through the official channels of the tournament.
For the qualifying event, which will begin on Saturday, April 17, wildcards have been granted to two players with a great projection. One is the 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Gimeno, who has been showing good projection in recent years. In 2019 he showed his potential by being a finalist in the junior edition of Wimbledon and this year he broke new ground by winning the title at the ATP Challenger in Gran Canaria 2. The second is 17-year-old Danish Holger Rune, who will also make his debut on the courts of the RCTB-1899. A month ago, at the ATP 250 in Santiago de Chile, he reached the quarterfinals after scoring a big win over Frenchman Benoit Paire.
