Carlos Alcaraz will play the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2022

Carlos Alcaraz confirms his participation in the next Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – 69th Trofeo Conde de Godó, which will be held on the courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 from April 16 to 24. Therefore, the great promise of world tennis joins a list of great players such as Rafa Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Jannik Sinner.

Despite the outbreak of the pandemic, the disciple of Juan Carlos Ferrero completed a brilliant 2020 season that rocketed him from position 490 in the ATP ranking to 138. 2021 was the year of his confirmation with his first title in the ATP 250 from Umag and reaching the 32nd position at the end of the year. His meteoric progression continues unchecked in this 2022, where he has added his second title at the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro and has established himself in the Top-20 of the ranking.

“Alcaraz is a player who has exceptional conditions that allow him to play against any rival. Nobody knows how far he will be able to go, but we are all convinced that he will go very far”, assures David Ferrer, director of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. In recent years, the tournament served to discover other promising players such as Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas, who starred in the last finals played (2018, 2019 and 2021).

In 2019, at the age of 15, the Murcian tennis player made his first appearance in the Barcelona tournament, on the courts where he grew up as a tennis player in the lower categories of the RCTB-1899. He played the qualifying and fell in his first match against the Portuguese Pedro Sousa. Last year he made his first main draw debut at the age of 17, losing in the first round to American Frances Tiafoe.
