Four years ago, CUPRA was born to win over car lovers with exhilarating style and contemporary performance, with a mission to challenge established norms in the era of electrification. Now, the CUPRA Born has arrived to break into the market, combining electrification, sportiness, and the maximum driving emotion, challenging the current status quo. For this reason, it is the car chosen to become the official vehicle of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, the emblematic tennis tournament that will be held from April 16 to 24 in Barcelona.
In the words of Víctor Sarasola, commercial director of CUPRA Spain: “Sponsoring the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell tournament for the second consecutive year means for CUPRA to reaffirm its commitment to sustainability and electrification, maintaining emotions both when driving and when commitment to high-performance sport.”
CUPRA is going to make a fleet of 24 electrified vehicles available to the tournament, 16 of them will be the CUPRA Born. This is CUPRA’s first 100% electric vehicle and represents a new stage in the brand’s development. This model integrates the most advanced fully electric propulsion technology, which drifts power to the rear axle. It is available with two power versions, coupled with a lithium-ion battery with a net capacity of 58 kWh. On one side, the 204 hp (150 kW) model and on the other, the new version with an e-Boost pack, which increases the maximum power to 231 hp (170 kW). Autonomy is up to 417 kilometers with the first option and 419 km if the e-Boost system is added, a version that allows the CUPRA Born to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds. Soon, the 231 hp e-Boost version will join the range, associated with a larger 77 kWh battery, which allows it to travel up to 546 km.
Likewise, the CUPRA Born is the first model of the brand that responds to a concept of neutral CO2 production, through which energy from renewable sources is used in the supply and logistics chain, as well as in its production. The remaining emissions are offset by investments in certified environmental projects. In addition, the CUPRA Born is made completely out of sustainable materials that, in addition, are complemented with recycled materials from plastic waste obtained from the sea, thanks to the SEAQUAL® initiative, present in the car’s Bucket seats as standard.
Reducing the environmental impact is also the objective of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 69th Trofeo Conde de Godó. Therefore, it will become the first ATP category tennis tournament in the world to officially certify the carbon footprint in accordance with the international standard ISO 14064, with a range that covers the entire life cycle necessary to carry out an international sporting event of this dimension. For this reason, the Born and the CUPRA plug-in hybrid range are the perfect ally to challenge the conventional and take care of the environment.
