Alcaraz-Carreño, nothing like it
This is the end. They have deserved it. And the champion will be crowned today, in a final between the 11th and 19th players in the world. They are two very dear players. And that will break the hearts of more than one fan of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell because the match, sentimentally speaking, will be a close one.
Alcaraz fought hard. He came back from an adverse first set and a second set not suitable for cardiac patients. De Miñaur did not make it easy for him… and, with his back against the wall, Alcaraz knew how to stay alive like the best. After 223 minutes of battle, Alcaraz raised his arms and received one of those great appauses that is not easily forgotten. Ever since he set foot in RCTB-1899, a large majority of fans have dreamed of seeing him in today’s final. And there are dreams that do come true.
Carreño had an easier path. He defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman in just two sets. It was the fourth time they had met. And the balance was already favorable to the Asturian player before taking the court, since Carreño had prevailed in the US Open and, precisely, on the Barcelona clay in 2021. That previous experience and the desire of the RCTB-1899 player to stand once in the final of a tournament that he has already played ten times, ensured that this possibility, which is already real, was never in danger. Carreño, finally and in front of his own, will be able to rise to the title of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell… with permission, of course, of Carlos Alcaraz. The final is served under the Barcelona sun.
