The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell becomes the tournament of records
Rafael Nadal's 10-win record tournament has also been a tournament record for the organization, which has surpassed all figures from past editions. The Real Club Tennis Barcelona had 95,000 people visiting the tournament during the nine days of competition, a figure never registered in the 65 years of the tournament’s existence.
The number of spectators in the stands during the 47 matches of singles draw of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, plus the doubles and the sub-14 tournament, has risen to 80,598, a figure to which we must add visitors to the Village and La Terraza Market. Last year the number of fans who visited the tournament was close to 90,000.
Another absolute record has been the tickets sold. The organization put the ‘sold out’ poster the last three days of competition. In relation to the sales registered in 2016, which was also an absolute record of the tournament, this year has had a 9% increase.
From the media point of view, the figures also were record. 6,253 articles have been published in the different media outlets, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2016. Of that figure, 4,779 correspond to digital media, 1,152 to paper, 208 to news on television and 127 on radio.
As for the television audience, the potential number of viewers around the world is expected to be around 325. At this point the audience of the final in La 1 TVE, which reached a share of 12.3 % with a total audience of 1,700,000 people, an amount that increased by 11% during the trophy ceremony (13.2% and 1,900,000 viewers).
In TV3 the audience of the program before the final of Sunday that disputed Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem was of 85,000 viewers, the match itself to 35,000 and the ceremony to 48,000.
During the last three days the program "Corazón" of La 1 was produced from La Terraza Market. Friday was the day with the highest audience: 13.7% share and 1,528,000 viewers.
The official website of the tournament, which featured a new design for this edition, has had 988,147 page views in a week. There have been 210,616 users from 204 countries who have browsed for content. Also the download figures of the mobile application of the tournament have been a record: 6,811 users from 110 different countries.
