The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will pay tribute to David Ferrer, one of his great heroes
The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will pay tribute to David Ferrer, a four-time finalist of the tournament between 2008 and 2012, during the next edition of the historic Spanish tennis event. The veteran tennis player from Alicante is saying goodbye to the tournaments in which he has most enjoyed his professional years, and the Real Club Tenis Barcelona (RCTB) event will be the first on Spanish soil in which he will say farewell to his fans.
The organization of the tournament is aware of the magnitude of this tribute due to the category of Ferrer and the extraordinary collection of values that he treasures. That is why he has agreed to reward both his great sports background in Barcelona after 14 participations, the first in 2003, as his overwhelming personality and charisma.
Ferrer's farewell tour began at the beginning of the year in Auckland, where an injury to the right calf forced him to retire, and will continue in Buenos Aires – he is scheduled to debut on Tuesday -, Acapulco, Barcelona and Madrid. The RCTB fans will have the chance to see for the last time in action a Spanish tennis giant that has won 27 ATP titles, has been third in the universal ranking and has remained for seven years among the 10 best players in the world.
The act of homage to Ferrer, on the same Rafa Nadal court in which he has set foot on many times, will take place on Sunday, April 28, shortly before the singles final of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
