David Ferrer will debut with all honours on Tuesday 23 on the Rafa Nadal court
David Ferrer will debut at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell this season on Tuesday 23, Sant Jordi day, and will do so at the Rafael Nadal court. The participation of the Alicante player, who will play his last tournament at the Real Club Tenis Barcelona after announcing his retirement from active tennis, has aroused great interest and that first match of the four-time finalist becomes one of the blockbuster matches on the schedule of that day.
This will be Ferrer´s 15th participation at the tournament. He debuted in 2003 and between 2008 and 2012 he played four finals, all against Rafael Nadal. He has disputed a total of 42 matches and has won 28 of them. His last encounter in Barcelona was the second round of the 2017 edition, when he played against the South African Kevin Anderson, who beat him in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
In 2018 he could not participate since the tournament coincided with the birth of his son Leo.
The main draw ceremony for the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will take place on the 21st at 12 noon at the Fan Corner and one of the most expected moments of the event will be to learn Ferrer's rival.
The tennis player from Alicante is the third in the history of Spanish tennis in number of titles ATP (27), only surpassed by Nadal and Manuel Orantes. This year he has played four tournaments and in all of them he has overcame the first round. He has played nine matches and has a favourable win/loss record of 5-4.
