Jaume Munar improves 113 positions in a year and earns the respect of the ATP circuit
Little by little, working daily in the most favourable environment, at the Rafa Nadal Academy, where he is looked after by the best, Jaume Munar progresses irresistibly in the circuit and makes his way among the tennis stars. This week has taken another step in his maturity by defeating his first Top 10 in Marrakech, Alexander Zverev, current third best player in the ATP ranking.
Although it may not seem like it, the young Munar, currently the fifth best Spanish tennis player in the world ranking at No.61, has been one of the fastest progressing players in the ranking. Just to give an example: last year, this week, he was ranked 173, which means that in these 365 days he has improved 113 positions, something truly worth highlighting.
Although he has not yet been able to win his first ATP title, the 21-year-old Spaniard, who competed in the semi-finals of the Next Gen final in Milan in 2018, has been unstoppable in recent months: in June of last year he entered the top- 100, later in the season he finished in the 81st position and now he is already in the top-60 (last week was exactly 60). In this 2019 he has played the quarterfinals of five tournaments (Pune, Córdoba, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Marrakech). This results show a maximum consistency.
Last year he received an invitation to the tournament and took advantage of it very well defeating Joao Sousa and putting a good fight against Dominic Thiem. Now, he consolidated his position in the circuit, he aspires to be one of the surprises of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2019.
