Karen Khachanov accepts the invitation to participate at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell
Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov, number 11 in the world and one of the most serious contenders to enter the top-10 in the coming weeks, has confirmed his participation in the 2019 edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. Khachanov joins a very interesting list currently composed by Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori and Stefano Tsitsipas.
The Muscovite player, member of the staff of Real Club Tennis players Barcelona-1899, is about to take part in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open. He made his 2019 debut campaign in Doha, where he lost in his only match to Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka. In Melbourne he will make his debut against the German Peter Gojowczyk.
In 2018, Khachanov made a huge step to the international tennis elite by moving from 45th place in the world ranking to 11th, which he defends at the moment. That season he won three ATP titles and won 46 matches, the last five in a row to be crowned champion of the 1,000 Masters Rolex Paris Masters at the beginning of November. In the final, he defeated Novak Djokovic against all odds, in what is to date the most historic victory of his career.
At 22 years old, Khachanov is already a regular at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell tournament, which he has played three times with the quarterfinals of 2017 as the best result.
The 67th edition of the tournament will be held between April 20 and 28. Tickets are already on sale, and can be purchased on the official website of the tournament, www.barcelonaopenbancsabadell.com
