The organization declares the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell a smoke-free tournament

The Organizing Committee of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell has decided to name this year´s tournament smoke-free. The measure, which places the tournament at the forefront of most other ATP competitions in a field considered key to the development of sustainability strategies, means that those attending this tournament will not be able to smoke anywhere in the venue, Village, Fan Boulevard and leisure spaces included.

Although last year there were already categorical steps to eliminate tobacco during the competition days, it is in this edition when this decision of the organization really takes force and maximum respect will be monitored to achieve a more pleasant stay for visitors in the tournament venue.

The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell becomes one of the first tournaments of the ATP to take a measure of these proportions that also ensures the protection of the health of tennis players participating in Barcelona, ​​not only the main draw, but the players sub-14 of the promotion tournament and participants in other planned exhibitions such as the wheelchair tennis on Sunday 21 April.

In conjunction with the celebration of a round table on issues related to the environment (25th of April at 7 pm at the club's sports centre) and the goal "Zero waste" to combat the massive use of plastic, this agreement to eradicate smoking at the tournament is the biggest one on with regards to the Sustainability Plan of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2019.

The tournament won the ISO 20121 certification last year, a standard created by the International Organization for Standardization that is presented to events that stand out for the good use of environmental practices.
