Thiem, Nishikori and Tsitsipas enrich the list of participants of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2019
Three of the best tennis players in the world, the Austrian Dominic Thiem, the Japanese Kei Nishikori and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, have confirmed their participation in the next edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell that will be held from April 20 to 28 on the courts of the Real Club Tennis Barcelona. After the announcement of Rafa Nadal, who will defend his 11th title won last April, the organization is shaping the poster of a tournament that will undoubtedly count again with the best specialists in the world on clay.
"Thiem, Nishikori and Tsitsipas are three of the best players in the world and we are proud to announce that they will participate again in 2019," said Albert Costa, director of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. There are three tennis players who are very much loved at the Real Club Tenis Barcelona and favourites for the title in any tournament they dispute. With Nadal and these three outstanding players means that we will present a team of players at the level of the prestige of the tournament."
Thiem, finalist in 2017, when he was beaten by Nadal in a spectacular match that confirmed the possibilities of the great Austrian player, will compete in Barcelona for the fifth time. In 2018 he was one of four players who managed to beat Nadal and has just finished the season in the 8th position of the ATP ranking.
Two-time champion of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell (2014-2015), Nishikori returns punctually to one of his lucky tournaments. The Japanese talent, ninth best player of the moment, played three finals in 2018, primarily the Masters 1000 of Monte Carlo, but has not been able to add any other title to his record. In his last tournament of the year, in the London Masters, he said goodbye to the season with two wins against two top-10, Kevin Anderson and none other than Roger Federer.
The 2018 season has triggered expectations around the young Tsitsipas, the great sensation of the circuit after its surprising breakthrough in recent months. The finalist of the last edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell has concluded the campaign with a triumph in the Next Gen finals in Milan and ranked 15th in the ATP ranking. At the end of 2017 he was the 91 best player in the world.
Tickets to attend the tournament are now on sale from last November 20.
