The tournament honours Javier Moreno for his 25 consecutive years as referee
Javier Moreno has been honoured at the stand of the Real Club Tennis Barcelona in the Village as this edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is 25th consecutive participation as referee. The act has been very emotional and the President of the club, Jordi Cambra, has done the honours to Moreno, who was able to escape from his duties at the competition to receive such deserved recognition.
The event was also attended by the tournament's sporting director, Albert Costa, as well as members of the board of directors of RCTB-1899.
Moreno's responsibilities as referee are numerous. In addition to being in permanent relation with the ATP supervisors for this tournament, Tom Barnes and Carlos Sanches, is in charge of organizing the schedule, coordinating the technical part of the competition and coordinating everything that affects the development of the game.
Born in Barcelona and with a strong devotion to tennis since childhood, Moreno has had the chance to know all facets of tennis, being finally recognized internationally as refere. He has directed Grand Slam tournaments and has intervened in more than 100 Davis Cup playoffs.
